Curriculum and Teaching 4
This unit will encourage students to examine closely the difference between
immersion and classroom instructed second language acquisition and its
practical implications, particularly as they relate to the fostering of
the communicative approach in the teaching of the main language skills.
Students will learn how to enhance learners’ strengths and how to
help their weaknesses in their first language through the acquisition
process of another language. Students will expand their knowledge of how
to best cater for different learning styles in the classroom, and they
will be offered the opportunity to develop teaching materials based on
best teaching practices, including the use of ICT technology, which are
particularly suitable for assessment purposes. Students will be come familiar
with the basic principles of how to set up and organize classroom-based
research involving young second language learners.
