LOTE Curriculum and Teaching

This unit is designed to promote a more in-depth examination of many aspects
of the processes of learning and teaching a second language beginning
with the role of language and literacy in both first and second languages.
Prospective LOTE educators will become familiar with how to foster a positive
second language learning environment in the classroom by studying research
results on the main factors affecting second language acquisition and
the characteristics of good second language learners. The main elements
of lesson planning and lesson delivery will include the discussion of
research studies on second language students’ modes of learning
and on the use of the target language by second language teachers during
class time.
