ESL Method

This unit is designed to explore the historical development of the teaching of English as a second language within the Australian context. Current ESL education policies will be examined as will the main research findings on the acquisition of English as a Second language. How the research translates into classroom practice will also be a feature of the unit. Special emphasis will be given to developing appropriate teaching techniques, assessment and evaluation practices for ESL students. Moreover, students will be expected to familiarise themselves with existing curriculum materials and develop skills in designing specific curriculum appropriate to the secondary ESL in the mainstream classroom.
