Teaching Organisation There is no practical component to this unit. Rather, the unit seeks to communicate information to the students through lecture and tutorial-based learning and the students' own research into specific areas of environmental legislation. A compulsory half-day excursion to the Land and Environment Court will be undertaken. A mock inquiry of a relevant environmental issue will also be held.

This unit examines legislation regulating environmental development and management. The current delineation of responsibilities between local, state, and federal government, the Australian Constitution and the scope of Commonwealth powers, Aboriginal heritage, the development of international law and international heritage agreements are discussed. The institutions, policies, specific regulations concerning environmental development and management, and procedures for dispute resolution are studied in detail.
