The Australian Environment: Values and Ethics

Prerequisites Nil

Teaching Organisation 3 contact hours per week for 12 weeks or equivalent.

Environmental philosophy and ethics play a central role in environmental science. This unit begins to provide a strong ethical framework by analysing the major traditions of ethical thinking about the environment with extensive reading, discussion and reflective writing. Students study the works of various writers ranging from Christian traditions to radical theories to understand the various philosophies and their influence on people. Students will begin to explore Aboriginal spirituality and connection with the land, and the conflict between Western and Aboriginal values.
