Prerequisites Nil

Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for 12 weeks or equivalent.

Begins with a consideration of two key macroeconomic problems, inflation and unemployment. Other topics include national income accounting; classical income and employment theory; Keynesian income and output determination; aggregate demand and supply analysis; money, banking and credit creation; the demand for money; introduction to monetary and fiscal policy and economic stabilisation, including budget deficits and surpluses; the international macroeconomy (balance of payments analysis; exchange rates). The unit focuses on macroeconomic problems of the Australian economy.
