at Ballarat Campus VIC (Aquinas) Overview The Master of Education (Coursework) program is designed for graduate students interested in pursuing a broad academic study of education. It provides studies in a range of academic areas, including Career Education, Evaluation, Information and Communication Technology, Inclusive Schooling, Teaching and Learning, Literacy, Mathematics Education, TESOL, Early Childhood, Pastoral Care Leadership, Social and Emotional Learning and Sustainable Futures. Up to 3 approved units may be taken from the Master of Educational Leadership, Master of Religious Education and Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages programs. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of recent research, and/or professional developments related to their program of study. They will be offered opportunities to engage and interact with other students from diverse professional backgrounds. CreditCredit may be given for previously completed relevant studies taught and assessed at the Master's level or its equivalent. The maximum credit that may be allowed into the Masters course is half that of the program. Within the University there is also provision for the recognition of prior learning. Credit must be applied for when enrolling in the course and be accompanied by relevant documentation. Course StructureUnit OfferingsUnit
offerings will vary subject to student demand and lecturer availability. To complete the Master of Education (Coursework) students are
required to: Complete eight units of coursework (80 credit points) including: · one compulsory unit (10 credit points); and · up to seven elective units (70 credit points). Course
requirements for the Master of Education (Specialisation) are:
Up to three of these electives may be taken, with the approval of the course coordinator from other Masters courses. Research projects worth either 10 or 20 credit points may also contribute to the required total of 80 credit points. Students have the option to exit with the award of one of the following Postgraduate Certificates after completing 40 credit points in units which contribute to one of the designated specialisations:
Students who choose not to specialise and complete 40 credit points from across the range of units offered at Masters level may exit with the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Students also have the option of enrolling directly into one of the Postgraduate Certificates named above.
