This course provides a concentration of units in Theology for students wishing to pursue their personal and professional interest in the area. The Graduate Certificate In Arts (Theology) serves as a prerequisite for the Master of Arts (Theology) for those students who lack theological studies at a postgraduate level.

The course aims to introduce students to some of the principal subject areas of contemporary Catholic theology, in the context of ecumenical and inter-faith dialogue.

Students may study individual units according to their availability in any mixture of modes through the following campuses: Ballarat (Aquinas), Brisbane (McAuley at Banyo), Canberra (Signadou), Melbourne (St Patrick's) and Strathfield (Mount St Mary).

Admission Requirements
Applicants should have a three-year degree or diploma in any field from a recognised tertiary provider.

Application should be made on the Direct Entry Application Form available on the ACU National website, http://www.acu.edu.au/forms.cfm or from the Student Centre. Direct Entry Application Forms, together with any supporting documentation, should be submitted to the ACU National Admissions Section.

Requirements for Completion of Award

Completion of 40 credit points (all units having a value of 10cp each) from 2 core units and 2 elective units as below, all of which are taken from the foundation units for the Master of Arts (Theology) course.

Professional Recognition

Professional recognition may differ between dioceses. Teacher applicants are advised to contact the Catholic or State Education Office in the area in which they teach to ascertain the status of the course.

Students who wish to proceed to further study upon completion of the Graduate Certificate are eligible to enter the Master of Arts (Theology) course. If they do not wish to proceed to the full Master's degree (8 units), it is possible to exit from the Master's course with a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Theology) after completing four units from this degree course. Teacher graduates of these two awards may be able to seek four-year trained teacher status with an employer. Applicants are advised to discuss these possibilities with their local Catholic or State Education Office.
