Health care services are facing challenges to be efficient, cost effective and equitable. In addition, consumer groups, particularly those using obstetric services, are recognising the limitations of these services and are calling for alternatives to a system that exhibits a preoccupation with technological intervention. This unit provides an alternative approach to caring for families. It enables practitioners to conceptualise the family and the health of the family within the broad context of the environment in which they live. This unit provides students with opportunities to explore their role as change agents in primary health care of families. |
