Information Management in Community Settings

The aim of this unit is to explore how, and what, information is collected by community health nurses. The emphasis is on nurses’ documentation of what they do. Students will be asked to describe the use of various systems employed to collect and assess client information, for example, paper-based, computer-based and mobile-based systems. The implications of NSW Health’s Community Health Information Development Project will be discussed as it relates to standardisation of nursing procedures and nursing data. It is intended that this unit includes a field trip and visit with the Sydney Home Nursing Service.
