Health & Healing Practices in Indigenous Communities: Nurses Learning from Fieldwork

The focus of this unit is on enhancing an understanding of primary health care practices of indigenous people, and identifying and managing the major health problems of a developing country. Students participating in this unit will undertake a field trip to the Solomon Islands. Before the trip an intensive workshop will be attended by the students where the principles of primary health care will be explored, including emphasis on health promotion methods, health aid projects, health attitudes and values of indigenous communities, and health and healing practices of indigenous people.
