Nurses need to be able to conceptualise the family and community as clients so that the goals of health promotion and illness prevention can be achieved. An understanding of the variety of environmental influences and interactions that determine health status of the family and community can assist in the achievement of these goals. It is necessary for nurses to have a broad perspective regarding health problems that may be experienced by different groups within a community and by communities at different levels of development. This unit is intended to acquaint nurses with some of these problems. |
