Child and Adolescent Development: Individual Differences and Special Needs


This unit focuses on current theoretical issues in child and adolescent development especially individual differences in development. This unit examines questions about interactions between individual development (physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual) and the impact of culture and context on that development. Additionally, it introduces students to professional attitudes, understandings and skills in relation to individuals with special needs - intellectual, physical, behavioural, emotional and communication. Lectures and the tutorials will encourage the development of critical and reflective approaches to theory and evidence.
