Primary Teaching and Classroom Management 1/FXP

The unit is designed to introduce the fundamental skills of teaching while at the same time raising students' awareness of the social influences affecting the teacher's role. This unit also introduces the student to the multifaceted nature of teaching, incorporating social justice, equity and empowerment issues related to teaching. With regard to foundation skills, particular focus is on classroom communication skills, lesson planning, teacher questioning and responding, initial classroom management techniques, and the fostering of an effective learning environment. As this unit incorporates field experience strong links are established between the theoretical components and classroom practices in school and community settings.
