SOSE Method

This unit is designed for students to develop an understanding of the way in which studies of society and its environment are taught and studied in secondary schools. Reference is made to Studies of Society and Environment as a key learning area in the relevant national and state curriculum documents and to those specialised social science disciplines (for example, history, geography, politics) which reflect the "differentiation of knowledge", skills and values specific to those disciplines. The planning and development of lessons and units of work for teaching SOSE related disciplines and the assessment and evaluation of students' learning are studied. Emphasis is placed on particular strategies and techniques and the role of technology in the effective teaching of SOSE related disciplines.
