Music Method A

This unit of study will enable students to develop an understanding of current trends, music curriculum policies and syllabuses. Work with focus on music education at senior school level with learning areas such as music performance and music styles. Students will be able to extend their abilities in researching, planning, implementing and evaluating music lessons and music programs. The unit will provide students with an understanding of philosophy, music pedagogy and content in secondary school's music. Students will be able to develop music teaching skills appropriate to years 7-10 and VCE Music. Analysis of arts and music education texts from current music and arts education journals and websites will be part of the work in this unit. Teaching - learning processes for secondary and other post-primary music education will be examined. The intention of this unit is also to nurture students' continuing involvement in musical activities at a personal and/or community level.
