Mathematics
Method
The unit is designed to provide participants with strategies for planning,
implementing and monitoring learning experiences for students studying
mathematics in secondary schools. The unit will build on both national
and state documents relating to mathematical curricula. There is a focus
on junior secondary mathematics with special attention given to understanding
in mathematics, lesson planning, the use of concrete materials (for example,
in algebra), problem solving, technology and strategies for fostering
mathematical thinking in students. The unit proceeds to develop strategies
for assessing learning experiences for students studying mathematics at
all levels of secondary schools, including a focus on upper secondary.
Special attention will be given to theories of learning, unit planning,
assessment, technology, problem solving, mathematical investigations,
mathematical modelling and optional areas in the syllabus.
