International Political Economy

Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for 12 weeks or equivalent.

This unit presents students with general theories and concepts of international political economy. It aims to introduce students to the complex relationships between economics and politics in international relations, acquaint them with important critical perspectives, and introduce them to major historical and contemporary issues in international political economy; and to augment their theoretical and diagnostic capacities. The major schools of thought to be examined include Realism, Liberalism and Globalism, with particular emphasis given to topics such as war and peace, human rights and the global economy.
