Australian Indigenous Peoples - Past and Present


Prerequisites Nil

Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for 12 weeks or equivalent of lectures, tutorials, workshops, field trips, multi-media forms.

This unit is designed to offer students a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, history and contemporary issues. The unit will focus on the diversity of Indigenous Australia with particular emphasis on the cultures and history of the region in which it is being taught, through involvement of, and consultation with, Indigenous community members in planning and implementation. Major themes will include: Traditional Cultures and Histories; Contemporary Cultures and Issues and Contributions of Indigenous People in the Making of Australia.
