Studies in Technology

Prerequisites 1 Science Studies unit at introductory (100) level (that is, either BIOL111 Human Systems OR PHYS102 Natural Systems).

Teaching Organisation Lectures, practical sessions and tutorials.

Appropriate technologies for consideration might include: laser applications; ultrasound (medical and industrial applications); fibre optics in communications and medicine; the production of nuclear energy and applications of radiation in medicine and industry; the evolution of certain technologies such as the automobile, the bicycle and the steam engine; the development of timing devices and their impact on navigation; optical instrumentation including developments in microscopy; the effect of technology on society and of society on technology.
