Communication Skills

Prerequisites PSYC202 Social Psychology or equivalent.

Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week of lectures and tutorials/workshops.

The students will be introduced to the theory and practice of communication skills for one-to-one counselling. Students will gain an understanding of the range of micro skills involved in interpersonal communication and factors that enhance or inhibit such communication. The unit will also provide students with a model for counselling intervention (the Egan model) and delineate practical techniques for contrasting parameters of the counselling process.
