Prerequisites PSYC100 and PSYC101 Psychology A and B.
Teaching Organisation 2 hours per week of lectures, 1 hour per week of
tutorials; 2 hours per week in laboratory.
DEVELOPMENT Methods of studying development: observational, cross sectional,
and longitudinal. Theoretical perspectives. Biological, cognitive, social, emotional,
and moral development; integration. Genetic and environmental influences. Nurturance;
attachment; interactions. The notion of stage; problems of the stage notion.
Life span issues in development. Development of self: the self-concept; self
esteem; role of experience and learning; social determinants of self. Role of
family. Family and the ageing.
STATISTICS Coverage of parametric statistics, for example, t-test, ANOVA, and
non-parametric statistics, for example, Chi square, Mann-Whitney U-test, Spearman
Rank Order Correlation Coefficient.
