Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for 12 weeks or equivalent.

The focus of this unit is on the management of people in work organisations within the context of the employer-employee relationship. The utilisation of people in achieving the strategic objectives of an organisation is fundamental to the success of the enterprise. The content covers critical models and functions in selected areas of human resource management including strategic HR planning, recruitment and selection of employees, training and development, performance management, remuneration and benefits, employment relations, and assessing the effectiveness of HRM. Various legislative requirements will be integrated into each topic area. The major functions and purposes of the HR function are examined against the historical development of HR in Australia and international trends.
