The course provides the opportunity to develop and enhance midwifery knowledge, skills, and expertise, and leadership potential. This course provides the opportunity to conceptualise new and creative approaches to midwifery care, congruent with societal and professional trends.

The course provides for multiple entry points, and allows for completion at Master’s level, or exit at Graduate Diploma level. Opportunity is provided for registered nurses to gain a midwifery qualification, and for midwives holding a midwifery certificate to gain a postgraduate qualification.

Admission
Application should be made on the Direct Entry Application Form available on the ACU National website www.acu.edu.au/forms.cfm or from the Student Centre. Direct Entry Application Forms, together with any supporting documentation, should be submitted to the ACU National Admissions Section.

Entry Point 1
Applicants will be registered nurses with a degree in nursing or equivalent, and licensed to practice within the state where the course is undertaken.

Entry Point 2
Applicants will be midwives with a degree or equivalent, and endorsed to practice midwifery by the State registering authority where the course is undertaken.

Entry Point 3
Applicants will be midwives with a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery or equivalent, who are endorsed to practise midwifery.

Special Admission
Entry Point 1
Applicants will be registered nurses with a diploma or certificate in nursing and who are able to demonstrate the capacity for studies at postgraduate level.

Entry Point 2
Applicants will be midwives with a graduate certificate or diploma who are endorsed to practise midwifery by the State registering authority where the course is undertaken.

Entry Point 3
Not applicable.

Requirements for Completion of Award
Completion of 120 credit points of academic study.

Credit
Certificated Midwives: in recognition of previous studies at certificate level and clinical practice experience, credit of up to 40 credit points may be given after consultation with the applicant. Any application for credit must be made at the time of enrolment.

Students who have completed a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery will be required to undertake a further study of 40 credit points to receive the award of Master of Midwifery.

Professional Recognition
Graduates who are not already Registered/Certified Midwives will be eligible to seek registration/endorsement as midwives from the State nurse registration authority.
